Tackling our Ice Scourge

Tue 12 Jul 2016

A comprehensive plan to tackle Queensland's ice epidemic and help make our community safer has been released by the LNP.

According to the Member for Everton and Shadow Police Minister, Tim Mander an LNP Government would implement a five-point action plan to take ice off our streets through crime prevention, drug addiction services and strong enforcement.

"The LNP already has a solid track record on this issue, through law and order initiatives such as policing, tougher penalities for offenders, and addiction treatment services that work.

"Our five-point plan will dovetail in with the Federal Government's National Ice Action Plan to make Queensland the safest place to live, work and raise a family.

New study to improve traffic flow at Everton Park

Wed 22 Jun 2016

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is undertaking a traffic modelling study aimed at improving traffic flow through the intersection of Stafford and South Pine Roads at Everton Park.

The new TMR study comes following sustained lobbying from the Member for Everton,Tim Mander in response to the worsening traffic congestion.

“TMR recently installed a series of cameras to count the number of vehicles travelling through each day.

“Armed with this information, TMR engineers are now modelling options to change the traffic light signalling and realign lanes to understand what will really make an improvement to traffic flow,” he explained.

Earlier this year, TMR made signalling changes along South Pine Road, to the north of the intersection which the Department says has improved in-bound traffic flow during the week-day morning peak period.

“While I am pleased TMR is studying it again, the reality is the intersection is severely physically constrained and the opening of the Woolworths site last year made the problem even worse.

“It’s imperative the State Government fund a major upgrade as a matter of urgency,” said Mr Mander.

Mitchie FC accredited by Drug Foundation

Wed 1 Jun 2016

Everton MP, Tim Mander, has congratulated the Mitchelton Football Club for achieving Australian Drug Foundation accreditation for responsible management of alcohol.

Mr Mander said Mitchie's Level 3 accreditation recognised the great work the Club had done to promote postive messages and examples around alcohol.

"Club President Roger McIntosh (centre) and his team, together with Project Officer Dr Maike Neuhaus (left) have worked to create a vibrant club that families want to be part of because the emphasis is on the players and the game," he said.

"The Club's responsible management of alcohol has set an excellent example for our local community and for the hundreds of young players who develop their skills of the sporting field each week," said Mr Mander.
