Congratulations to Kookaburra Kids on their grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund!

Thu 30 Aug 2018

Kookaburra kids is an organisation dedicated to supporting kids living in families affected by mental illness. They provide recreational, educational camps and activities to give kids a break in a fun, positive and safe environment.

Kookaburra Kids held their first camp in 2002 with 16 kids. Today, they have over 1100 kids involved in their programs. This grant money will go towards workshop supplies to continue to assist the quality and spread of the program.

I’m really proud to be one of Kookaburra Kids’ supporters in helping them access funding so that they can continue to provide this integral service to the community.

Safety Improvements for Albany Creek- Old Northern Road/Explorer Drive Intersection

Good News- new traffic signals will be switched on this week at the intersection of Old Northern Road and Explorer Drive, Albany Creek.

I've been fighting for safety improvements on our roads for a long time and any step forward is one in the right direction for the people of Albany Creek.

The following safety improvements have been delivered at the intersection:

  • An extended southbound right-turn lane on Old Northern Road to increase capacity for turning vehicles;
  • A high-angle entry treatment for motorists turning left from Explorer Drive onto Old Northern Road to improve visibility;
  • A signalised pedestrian crossing across Explorer Drive (at the western side of the intersection).

A new footpath on the eastern side of Old Northern Road is currently in the design phase. Following this, construction on the new footpath will begin to provide safe passage across Old Northern Road.

Book Donation

I'm so proud of our local schools. One of our residents, Jim, approached me on behalf of his PNG friend Dickson. Dickson's home village in PNG had been devastated by an earthquake, including their school. I sent out a request to our schools for books for the PNG students and the response was fantastic.

Thank you Eatons Hill State School, Everton Park State School, Northside Christian College and Enoggera State School for your donations.

Kate and Ethan made the donation on behalf of their school.
