Action needed now to bust congestion

Tue 22 May 2018

At a busy road in Everton Park, LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said congestion is worsening across Southeast Queensland under Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor.

"Motorists in Southeast Queensland have been reduced to a crawl and are taking longer to get home each and every day," Ms Frecklington said.

"This is why I am launching an online survey to take the pulse of motorists and bust congestion."

"Congestion is getting worse and we want to hear from motorists about traffic conditions from their perspective."

LNP Shadow Treasurer and local Member for Everton, Tim Mander said easing congestion in Southeast was a priority for the LNP.

"The number one complaint I hear from commuters is that they are spending too long stuck in traffic when they are trying to get home to their families," Mr Mander said.

"Much more needs to be done to fix congestion in Southeast Queensland and that is why we want to hear from everyday Queenslanders about congetion hot spots in their own backyards."

Powerlink Helicopter Patrols

Mon 14 May 2018

To ensure the ongoing safety and reliability of Powerlink Queensland's network, low-flying helicopters will carry out routine maintenance inspections across South Queensland throughout May and June.

Local residents may see the helicopter moving relatively quickly and at a low level along the transmission lines, and in some instances, it may need to hover to enable closer inspection of the lines.

Intersection of Eatons Crossing and Lilley Roads

Despite the recent reduction in the speed limit at the intersection of Eatons Crossing and Lilley Roads, there have been five accidents in the last month, demonstrating the need for safety improvements to be made at this site.

I have sponsored a petition requesting the Minister for Main Roads plan and construct safety upgrades to address this situation.

Sign the Petition to object to Labor's Waste Levy

Tue 10 Apr 2018

The Palaszczuk Labor Government is introducing a Queensland-wide ‘waste tax’ to deal with the problem of NSW companies dumping their waste north of the border.

Nobody wants waste from NSW being dumped in Ipswich, but taxing the whole of the state is not the solution. Deb Frecklington and the LNP have opposed the approvals of any more ‘superdumps’. Other south-east Queensland councils like Brisbane and the Gold Coast have dealt with this problem without slugging local businesses.

A new ‘waste tax’ will mean disposing of commercial or industrial waste will cost more, from cafes disposing of oil and grease traps to the cost of servicing vehicles – tyres and batteries will be taxed too.

The waste levy will push up rates, increase the cost of homes and put extra pressure on small businesses for disposing of day-to-day waste.

The waste levy is a tax-grab and I will fight it every step of the way.

$1.1 Million Upgrade to Albany Creek Intersection

Mon 5 Feb 2018

Tim Mander, State Member for Everton, is pleased to announce that safety improvement works will soon commence at the intersection of Old Northern Road and Explorer Drive, Albany Creek.

"These works are being undertaken to improve road safety for all road users by decreasing the risk of collision at the intersection," he said.

In 2015 I campaigned strongly for an investigation into safety concerns at this intersection. The Department of Main Roads and Road Safety confirmed that lights were necessary to make this intersection safe.

"The upgrade will focus on a design to address the growing trend of crashes at the intersection and is due for completion this year," he said.
