Good News- new traffic signals will be switched on this week at the intersection of Old Northern Road and Explorer Drive

Mon 20 Aug 2018

Good News- new traffic signals will be switched on this week at the intersection of Old Northern Road and Explorer Drive, Albany Creek.

I've been fighting for safety improvements on our roads for a long time and any step forward is one in the right direction for the people of Albany Creek.

The following safety improvements have been delivered at the intersection:

  • An extended southbound right-turn lane on Old Northern Road to increase capacity for turning vehicles;
  • A high-angle entry treatment for motorists turning left from Explorer Drive onto Old Northern Road to improve visibility;
  • A signalised pedestrian crossing across Explorer Drive (at the western side of the intersection).

A new footpath on the eastern side of Old Northern Road is currently in the design phase. Following this, construction on the new footpath will begin to provide safe passage across Old Northern Road.

What a day at the Ekka!

Tue 14 Aug 2018

On Tuesday I was lucky enough to spend some time at the EKKA. I worked in the Prince Charles Foundation Strawberry Sundae Stall, played some handball for charity with Hit105 and got to meet some inspiring Queensland farmers.

Every year, the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation sells over 153 000 strawberry sundaes, with all profits going towards medical research. Over 3000 volunteers work hard to make this happen and I had a blast joining them.

If you’re lucky to make it to the EKKA over the next few days, make sure you get a taste of this awesome cause.

Intersection Upgrade- Albany Creek Rd/Ferguson Street & Wruck Crescent

I am happy to announce that after three years of nagging the Minister for Main Roads, I have finally secured funding for the much needed intersection upgrade at Albany Creek Rd/Ferguson Street & Wruck Crescent intersection.

$595,000 has been allocated to extend both right-turn lanes on Albany Creek Road at the Ferguson Street and Wruck Crescent intersection, and to modify traffic signal phasing to fully control right-turn movements.

I would like to say a big thankyou to all of the local residents who have approached me about this dangerous intersection. I am proud to serve a community of people who stand up and make sure the job gets done!

Improvements were funded in this year’s budget and are scheduled to take place in the 2019/2020 financial year.

Book Donation

I'm so proud of our local schools. One of our residents, Jim, approached me on behalf of his PNG friend Dickson. Dickson's home village in PNG had been devastated by an earthquake, including their school. I sent out a request to our schools for books for the PNG students and the response was fantastic.

Thank you Eatons Hill State School, Everton Park State School, Northside Christian College and Enoggera State School for your donations.

Kate and Ethan made the donation on behalf of their school.

Action needed now to bust congestion

Tue 22 May 2018

At a busy road in Everton Park, LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said congestion is worsening across Southeast Queensland under Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor.

"Motorists in Southeast Queensland have been reduced to a crawl and are taking longer to get home each and every day," Ms Frecklington said.

"This is why I am launching an online survey to take the pulse of motorists and bust congestion."

"Congestion is getting worse and we want to hear from motorists about traffic conditions from their perspective."

LNP Shadow Treasurer and local Member for Everton, Tim Mander said easing congestion in Southeast was a priority for the LNP.

"The number one complaint I hear from commuters is that they are spending too long stuck in traffic when they are trying to get home to their families," Mr Mander said.

"Much more needs to be done to fix congestion in Southeast Queensland and that is why we want to hear from everyday Queenslanders about congetion hot spots in their own backyards."

Click to complete the survey.

$1.1 Million Upgrade to Albany Creek Intersection

Mon 5 Feb 2018

Tim Mander, State Member for Everton, is pleased to announce that safety improvement works will soon commence at the intersection of Old Northern Road and Explorer Drive, Albany Creek.

"These works are being undertaken to improve road safety for all road users by decreasing the risk of collision at the intersection," he said.

In 2015 I campaigned strongly for an investigation into safety concerns at this intersection. The Department of Main Roads and Road Safety confirmed that lights were necessary to make this intersection safe.

"The upgrade will focus on a design to address the growing trend of crashes at the intersection and is due for completion this year," he said.
