Policy Announcements - Tim Mander MP for Everton, Brisbane, Australia

POLICY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Cheaper Electricity

The LNP will deliver cheaper electricity for Queensland families, farmers and small businesses so they can get ahead.

Under Annastacia Palaszczuk, Queenslanders are paying record electricity prices and her do-nothing Labor Government hasn't got a real plan to reduce these costs over the short and long term.

The LNP are committed to providing you with reliable power at a price you can afford.

Our electricity plan will save a typical Queensland family an average of $160 a year over the next two years.

Queensland Hospitals Planning Commission

An LNP Government will establish a Hospitals Planning Commission to manage the future planning of new and replacement hospitals across Queensland.

When it comes to the forward planning for our hospitals, Labor have made them political footballs at the expense of the future health needs of local communities.

In government, the LNP's strong plans for public healthcare resulted in the largest ever funding package for public healthcare.

Given the success of the Schools Planning Commission, an LNP Government will also establish a Hospitals Planning Commission to manage the future planning of new and replacement hospitals across Queensland.

Queensland Schools Planning Commission

An LNP Government will re-establish the Queensland Schools Planning Commission to provide independent advice on the future needs of schools all across Queensland.

Labor's school planning process is a shambles. There is no plan for the future to build the schools that Queensland needs.

Sadly for Queenslanders, Labor has only delivered one extra school outside of the LNP's schools program.

An LNP Government will re-establish the Queensland Schools Planning Commission to provide independent advice on the future needs of schools all across Queensland.

North Queensland Crime Action Plan

An LNP Government will introduce tougher laws, increase police powers and empower locals to provide safe and liveable communities in North Queensland.

Labor voted to wind back tough laws dealing with young offenders who have been running riot on the streets of North and Far North Quensland and our police aren't getting the resources they need to keep the community safe.

Labor actually blamed increasing crime rates on locals not locking their houses and cars up properly.

Enough is enough. It's time to put community safety first and hold these criminals accountable for their actions.

An LNP Government will implement a comprehensive plan empowering North Queensland locals to reclaim their communities from criminal activity.

Our $25.9 million North Queensland Crime Action Plan consists of:

  • Better Resources for Police
  • Early Intervention
  • Tougher Laws
  • Making Parents More Accountable

Fast Facts -

  • Ease pressure on the Bruce Highway by encouraging public transport use

The LNP's Getting Queensland Back in Business plan will restart the economy and set a target to create 500,000 jobs over the next 10 years. We will:

  • Cut taxes for business and families
  • Get young Queenslanders into work

Getting Queensland Back in Business

The LNP's Plan for 500,000 More Jobs and Lower Taxes

Queensland is losing the economic State of Origin. While other states are moving ahead, we're falling behind.

Under Labor we've seen Queensland's domestic economy shrink, business investment plummet, business confidence at the lowest level in the country and 30,000 jobs lost last year - our worst year on record.

The LNP's Getting Queensland Back in Business plan will restart the economy and set a target to create 500,000 jobs over the next 10 years.

We will create jobs and grow the economy by cutting taxes, cheaper electricity prices, building the infrastructure Queensland needs, getting young people into work and unleashing the potential of the private sector.

Only by Building a Better Queensland - we will deliver the jobs needed and restart our economy.

Fair Go for Electricity Customers

An LNP Government will give electricity customers a fair go by putting consumer representatives on the boards of electricity companies. That's because we know you can't continue to face rising electricity costs alone.

Over the last 10 years electricity costs have more than doubled, with prices increasing by 109 percent. Under Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor, prices have hit record highs.

The LNP's energy policy has always been based on affordability and security, not ideology.

The LNP's plan to put downward pressure on electricity prices includes:

  • Build with the private sector a high efficiency, low emissions coal-fired power station in North Queensland.
  • Freeze executive bonuses until electricity prices decrease.
  • Scrap Labor's extreme 50% renewable energy target.
  • Reporting Stanwell to the ACCC for price gouging and ripping off families and businesses.

Brisbane Metro

An LNP Government will support and facilitate the Brisbane Metro project to relieve public transport congestion in South East Queensland.

South East Queensland's public transport network is in crisis under Annastacia Palaszczuk. Rail commuters are left stranded at stations or packed onto crowded trains while buses are stuck in traffic on congested city streets or the Victoria Bridge.

The last time our buses and trains were this bad Annastacia Palaszczuk was the Transport Minister under Anna Bligh.

The LNP put the brakes on fare hikes and cut fares in 2014 for the first time by 5%. The LNP also introduced the incredibly popular and successful Free Trips After Nine policy.

The LNP turned our public transport network around with the first increase in patronage in more than five years.

No Lockout Law Guarantee

An LNP Government is the only party with a consistent position on lockout laws in Queensland because we believe in individual responsibility not a nanny state.

Labor's continual backflips and bungles are no way to implement public policy that should focus on community safety and individual responsibility.

We will implement the Safe Night Out strategy because that was the plan that was developed by Queenslander's.

We will close the current loophole that exists for ID scanners, by requiring venues that trade after midnight to commence scanning patrons at midnight, rather than 10pm.

We want to ensure Queenslanders can enjoy a safe night out, because a safe night out is a great night out.

We'll be a common sense government that listens, plans and acts to Build a Better Queensland.
