Make sure your fire escape plan is ready

Thu 12 May 2016

Residents are being urged to take fifteen seconds to consider their fire escape plans this winter.

Member for Everton, Tim Mander MP, said the State Government had started an advertising campaign to encourage people to complete simple tasks to get them started on their fire escape plan.

"About half of Queensland households don't have an escape plan yet they help to make sure in the event of a fire, everybody can get out safely before smoke, toxic fumes or flames their their toll," said Mr Mander.

Last winter there were 561 residential structural fires in Queensland.

Mr Mander said residents could obtain assistance in developing their fire escape plan and ensuring their home was fire safe by booking a free Safehome Visit.

Tim Mander, Member for Everton said a ticketing machine was installed into the retail store two weeks ago.

White Ribbon walk for community

Wed 18 Nov 2015

On White Ribbon Day 2015 I was very proud to be the co-host of an inaugural walk for resilience in my community.

I co-hosted the walk with a not-for-profit, volunteer run organisation in our community called The Nest.

The Nest helps women and children who want to be part of a supportive, nutruring community by providing free and low-cost workshops, events, scoial groups and services.

Each weekend, around 100 women and children of all backgrounds and ages learn new skills, connect and create at The Nest. It is an organisation that I am really excited to be involved with.

I was greatly encouraged by our inaugural walk last November.

We had a moment of silence to remember those women, in particular, who are the victims of domestic violence and have suffered greatly through it and, of course, the many who unfortunately have lost their lives.
