Everton groups get share of Gambling funds

Tue 22 Sep 2015

Member for Everton, Tim Mander has welcomed funding for local community groups through the latest round of Gambling Community Benefit Fund grants.

Mr Mander said eligible local community groups had received their fair share of the latest round of grant funding.

“I am proud of the hard working non-profit organisations who provide services to our community” Mr Mander said.

“They are vital to so many people and I am committed to ensuring they receive the most amount of funding possible.

“Whether it’s a school P&C, a support group or a local footie club, it’s important we continue to get behind those who make a difference.”

Successful groups in the electorate include North West Youth Accommodation Service whose grant will go towards the purchase of furniture and Eatons Hill State School P&C for a building upgrade.(see full list below)

Mr Mander said these quarterly grants allowed profits from gambling to be invested back into the community and benefited people from all walks of life.

“These grants can be the difference between keeping these important services in our area and going without,” he said.

“Applications for the next funding round close on 30 November and I encourage all local groups, however big or small, to apply for and make the most of this wonderful opportunity.”

Noise barrier construction underway

Mon 29 Jun 2015

The contract for construction of the Old Northern Road Noise Barrier project has been awarded to Queensland Bridge and Civil, and work is underway.

This  project will involve replacing identified barriers located between Jinker Track and the Bunyaville State Forest Park border on the western side of Old Northern Road and between The Boulevard to near DeVito Place on the eastern side with concrete panels. The existing timber barriers approximately 300 metres north of Hamilton Road intersection will be repaired. The height of the barriers for the majority of the project is two metres.

Works are scheduled to commence in late July 2015, and is scheduled for completion in 2016. Reduced speed limits, lane closure, signage and traffic control will be in place during works to safeguard motorist and roadworkers.

Traffic Announcement: Stafford Rd and South Pine Rd intersection

Transport and Main Roads (TMR) are currently carrying out resurfacing works at the Stafford Road and Sout Pine Road intersection. It has been found that the inbound detector loops (that detect traffic and are installed beneath the road surface) have failed and will be recut and replaced as part of thest works.

Unfortunately inbound traffic will be impacted due to the detector failures and will experience some additional delays and queuing.

TMR is sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to road users and expects the previous traffic signal timings to be re-instated whe the works are completed in about 2 - 4 weeks.

For information or enquires on road works and traffic conditions or to report an incident, call 13 19 40 or visit www.131940.qld.gov.au

Resurfacing and road safety improvement works on South Pine Rd and Old Northern Rd

Thu 12 Feb 2015

I would like to advise that works will soon be underway to undertake resurfacing and road safety improvements on South Pine Road and Old Northern Road, between Stafford Road and Rogers Parade East.

This $1.8 million project will involve replacing and repairing existing road and asphalt surfaces, linemarking and repairing man holes. These works will provide a safer and smoother surface for road users.

The works are due to commence in late February 2015 (weather, site and construction conditions permitting) and are expected be completed in April 2015.

To minimise traffic disruptions, works will be carried out between 7pm and 5am, Monday to Friday. Single lane closures, temporary property access changes, detours and reduced speed limits will apply during the works. Police, traffic controllers and construction signage will also be in place to safeguard motorists and road workers.

Access to properties on South Pine Road and along Old Northern Road, from Stafford Road to Rogers Parade East, will be maintained.

Nearby residents may experience some construction noise, additional work lighting, dust, odour and vibration during works. Letters will be distributed to nearby residents and businesses providing details of the work and contact information for enquiries.

Information about traffic disruptions will also be available from the 13 19 40 traffic report line and www.131940.qld.gov.au

Bunyaville makeover plans

Thu 29 Jan 2015

Picnics in the park are planning to get a whole lot more popular with facility upgrades to Bunyaville Regional Park in the works if I'm re-elected into government.

I have been working with the park rangers and local community groups to gauge how to best improve the park and attract visitors.

Everton residents are extremely lucky to have a regional forest in their own back yard, at just 15km north-west of central Brisbane, it is conveniently close to Brisbane city.

As part of my election pledge, I will be revitalising the picnic areas to include electric BBQs, new picnic tables and shade structures.

The upgrades will also include improvements to walking tracks, replacing timber infrastructure and general grounds maintenance like weeding and revegetation to ensure our native plants are protected.

Prospect Road takes a right turn

Tue 27 Jan 2015

Local motorists will benefit from a vital upgrade at the corner of Samford Road and Prospect Road in Mitchelton under a re-eleted LNP Governement.

Over the past few years I've been approached by a number of mums and dads concerned about the lack of access to Mt Maria College on Prospect Rd, with quite a few raising safety concerns of their children when trying to get home.

As part of the upgrade we will install dedicated turning arrows making life safer and easier for students and parents getting to and from school as well as those who are just trying to get home.

This upgrade would complement the roadworks already undertaken at the Samford Road and Wardell Street intersection.

Only the LNP has a strong local plan to ease congestion and improve safety for local residents.
