Murphy's Paddock Petition

I am very mindful that development needs to be appropriate and sustainable, and that our suburbs remain liveable.

I am gravely concerned about the proposed residential development of Murphy's Paddock, in particular about the density, greenspace and infrastructure around this project.

If this is a concern for you too, please sign this petition

Everton Park Post Office

Mon 18 Sep 2017

After over 100 years serving the Everton community, the Everton Park Post Office closed its doors in July. I was frustrated to hear this decision by Australia Post because I know that many people in the community use and rely on it and deserve to have access to these services within the suburb.

I know the local community was disappointed to hear these plans, so I sponsored a petition to Federal Parliament asking for the Post Office to reopen or be relocated within Everton Park, and I received an overwhelming response - almost 1500 signatures!

The petition went before the Petitions Committee in early August and has now been tabled in Federal Parliament. I have also written to Australia Post again. I will keep you updated on any progress.

The Post Office may be closed, but I will do my best to bring it back. Thank you for your support!

Bunyaville facilities

Thu 7 Sep 2017

We are very fortunate in our electorate to have Bunyaville Conservation Park right on our doorstep. With several different bush tracks, picnic tables, barbecues, drinking water and toilets, it's a fantastic location for a family day out or to escape the city buzz. I'm also currently working to have better barbecues installed for people to enjoy.

There are several community groups that operate within Bunyaville, including Friends of Bunyaville, Enoggeroos and Bunyaville Trail Runners and Bunya Belles. Every Saturday morning enthusiastic runners set off from James Drysdale Reserve for the Bunyaville Parkrun. Everyone is welcome! I had a BBQ the other week for these dedicated runners and am working with these groups to ensure each event has defibrillators.

It really is a fantastic location and we are lucky to have such a gem in our electorate, as well as so many local groups providing opportunities for us to enjoy it.

Everton Park Post Office Closure

Mon 10 Jul 2017

Australia Post has advised that they are about to close Everton Park Post Office.

Along with many local residents, I am opposed to this decision. A post office is warranted to service the residents and businesses in the suburb of Everton Park.

I have sponsored a petition to ask that Australia Post remain open or relocate as soon as possible in this suburb. This will be tabled in Federal Parliament in August, with a response then required by November.

Please help me in this fight by signing the petition.

It is available:

  • In my office - 1st floor 510 South Pine Road
  • Outside Coles in Everton Plaza
  • Toasted Cafe, Griffith Street Everton Park (opposite KFC)
  • Madeleine Hicks Real Estate, 2/6 Trouts Rd Everton Park
  • BWS, next to Woolworths Everton Park
  • St Jude Church office, Flockton St

You can also email Australia Post directly with your concerns - Robert Nucifora via robert.nucifora@auspost.com.au

Installation of high crash site warning sign

Wed 14 Jun 2017

The Department of Transport and Main Roads is about to commence installation of a high crash site warning sign near the intersection of South Pine Road and Pullen Road, Everton Park.

These works are scheduled to commence early June 2017 and be completed in late June 2017.

  • Monday to Friday, 6pm to 4am.

Possible impacts:

  • Local residents may experience additional light and noise, from construction equipment and activities.
  • Traffic management including traffic control and partial lane closures will be in place where required.
  • While some minor delays may be experienced during construction, this will generally occur outside peak times and at night to minimise impacts to busway users.

TMR has strategies in place to mitigate and manage impacts and apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause to residents and motorists.

For more information, go to www.qldtraffic.qld.gov.au or call 13 19 40.

No funding to fix intersection of Stafford Road and South Pine Road

Wed 14 Jun 2017

Desperately needed funding to fix traffic congestion at the intersection of South Pine and Stafford Roads at Everton Park was missing from this week's State Budget.

The State Member for Everton, Tim Mander, said that he was extremely disappointed there was no end in sight to the long and frustrating wait to get through this intersection each day for tens of thousands of commuters.

"Not only are people wasting precious hours of their week sitting in their cars here, but the intersection at South Pine and Stafford Roads is also dangerous."

"I have been expecting the results of skid resistance testing on the right turn movement from Stafford Road into South Pine Road after several minor car accidents on the intersection in the last 12 months. The State Government still has not provided the results of the testing," said Mr Mander.

Mr Mander said he was pleased the government re-announced some operational funding for the Youngcare facility at Albany Creek that was originally committed by the last LNP government in 2014.
